Open access publisher deals in The Netherlands

Open access publisher deals in The Netherlands
In 2015 The Dutch national website on open access has been completely refreshed with an updated look and more interactive content. Openaccess.nl provides information in both Dutch and English about key open access developments in the Netherlands, including connections with OpenAIRE.

Recently a platform with publisher deals was created as part of the website. The dedicated page gives insight into the open access deals arranged between Dutch universities – acting as a consortium –and publishers of academic journals, including Springer, Wiley and Elsevier. The negotiations with publishers are managed by The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU). Researchers can now find an overview of agreements between Dutch university libraries and traditional academic publishers with an open access element starting in 2015. For each publisher the number of open access publications is added.

Which publishers are actually involved, what are the details of each deal and what is the procedure if you want to publish? Tables show the number of publications each deal has resulted in from 2015 up to now. At the moment of the launch in October 2016, there are close to 2.200 publications realised. The information is updated on a monthly base.

Next to the deals theirs is insight where Dutch scientists opt for publishers which business model is based on pure open access. Here you find the open access uptake with PLoS, MDPI, Copernicus, Biomed and others.

Surfmarket, the prime ICT-facilitator for higher education and research composed a list of more than 4,500 journals in which corresponding authors of Dutch universities and academic hospitals can publish in open access for free or with a substantial discount. This list is updated four times a year.
