Open Science in Horizon 2020: Serbia OpenAIRE National Workshop

Open Science in Horizon 2020: Serbia OpenAIRE National Workshop
Over 350 researchers attended “Open Science in Horizon 2020”: the Serbia OpenAIRE National Workshop hosted by the University of Belgrade on November 8, 2016.

The event was opened by the Vice Rector of the University of Belgrade and the Deputy Minister of Science.
The presentations covered the following topics: "OpenAIRE as a European infrastructure supporting Open Science", "OpenAIRE2020 in Serbia: an overview and successes" and a new Erasmus+ project  "BE-OPEN (Boosting Engagement of Serbian Universities in Open Science)" coordinated by the University of Novi Sad.
The BE-OPEN project will create a national Open Science framework, develop Open Science standards and generate Open Science evaluation indicators in Serbia. It will advocate for institutional  open access mandates in the country and will promote and educate about Open Science. BE-OPEN will also facilitate the search for experts/partners/funders and will promote socially responsible research.

Another presentation concerned the OpenAIRE FP7 post-grant Open Access Publishing Funds Pilot and there was an overview of open access repositories in Serbia highlighting good practice case studies.

The next session addressed Open Data: a general introduction to the Open Research Data Pilot and in-depth information about Data Management Planning and open data in Serbian Government institutions (see for example http://data.sepa.gov.rs/; http://www.data.poverenik.rs/; http://opendata.mpn.gov.rs )

The day was closed by a lively discussions with project coordinators and participants. It is interesting to note that most Serbian Horizon 2020 projects are implemented by SMEs - offering a different perspective!
All presentations are available at the event’s website, and the recordings can be found here. The Ministry of Science has also created on overview page on their website (in Serbian).
Three OpenAIRE factsheets have been translated into Serbian language (OpenAIRE general, FP7 Gold Open Access Publishing Funds Pilot, and Open Research Data) and printed for the workshop participants. The PDFs are available on the event website (click on the thumbnails in the middle of the page).
