Mission

University of Tartu Library’s development plan for 2021-2025 clearly states that its mission is to develop Open Science in Estonia for the benefit of Estonian science and research with the goal to make Open Science principles integral part of Estonian science landscape.

Contribution to Open Science

In Estonia, Open Access has been on the radar since 2009. The University of Tartu Library was one of the early adopters hosting Open Access Weeks since 2010 and organizing various events to initiate debates on Open Access and Open Research Data. University of Tartu in cooperation with other major Estonian universities established in 2015 DataCite Estonia Consortium in order to make Estonian research more visible and accessible. Since 2020, University of Tartu Library developed an Estoniaown Open Science brand with the goal to make OS principles widely known in Estonia. 

Goals and objectives

University of Tartu goals on advancement of Open Science in Estonia is to help Estonia develop of fully functional Open Science National policy and to implement practical aspects of this policy within the university as well as in Estonian research landscape. Principles of Open Science should become an integral part of Estonian research and science.

Services

University of Tartu and its Library are offering various Open Science services for the university as well as for the research community in Estonia. Services include: training programs for research data management, archiving of data and assigning DOI, Open Science related eventsconsultations about the management, archiving and publishing of research data.
