Open Call Winner Phase 1 - CITE

Open Science Lens

The proposal will exploit the well defined and easily locatable on text, concept of DOIs. Using this as a starting point, it will utilize OpenAIRE API and OpenAIRE graph data model to locate key concepts around a DOI (publication, datasets, or other artifacts) present in OpenAIRE and will unroll the graph of links in OpenAIRE to present the user with all available information, as well as direct access to the DOI referenced artifact itself.

However, the addon and widget will try to exploit the OpenAIRE APIs even in the absence of DOIs, thus making it a powerful assistant in the exploration of Open Science. For instance, offering a context sensitive action (via a menu item or option list) that allows exploration of on-page information from the point of view of Open Science: explore project info, locate relevant projects, find call projects, find publications in context / of author etc. This will promote OpenAIRE as the one stop shop for Open Science exploration from multiple perspectives.

All those shall be designed and optimized in order to achieve a premium quality offering both in terms of user experience and in terms of software quality and performance. In order to achieve all those benefits, the Open Science Lens will deliver at least two client oriented components (browser addon, Widget), two servicing elements (a web app and services) and will integrate with several entities, such as OpenAIRE API, ORCID, Auth2.0 authentication providers etc.

Tender priority topics addressed: The service directly addresses several aspects of the challenge of OpenAIRE:

(a) uses data provided via OpenAIRE APIs: the suggested browser addon and widget consume OpenAIRE graph data model, and several areas of the API to draw information about projects, researchers, publications, calls, topics etc

(b) produces new services and tools: not only front end components but also backend components will be delivered to provide the necessary visualization backend for the addons to be engaged.

(c) adds value for stakeholders that are recipients of research outcomes: researchers but also the general public are supported to drill into the Open Science artifacts much deeper and in a more structured manner than a traditional or e-publication

(d) adds value for stakeholders that are funders and service providers allowing to directly exploit Open AIRE services for the promotion of their results or / and enhancement of their services.

Phase 1 budget: 8,215 €
