Cyprus adopts National Open Access policy

Cyprus adopts National Open Access policy
On the 25th of February 2016, the Council of ministers of the Republic of Cyprus, approved the adoption of the National policy for Open Access in Cyprus.

The document's approval was the outcome of a tremendous collaboration between the different stakeholders involved in the Working Group for Open Access (consisting of the NPR for OA, local Academic institutions and national funders), coordinated by the OPENAIRE2020 Cyprus NOAD (University of Cyprus Library) and highly supported by the coordinators of the project PASTEUR4OA.

The document was forwarded by the National Point of Reference (NPR) for OA in Cyprus (Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development) for public consultation and promoted by the same body to the Council of ministers.

The Cyprus OA policy document is available on the National Strategy for Research and Innovation page of the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development

The National policy provides guidelines and support for the implementation of Open Access to research outputs that are funded locally, aligned with the European policies and based on the already established infrastructure in European level (e.g. OpenAIRE).

Several activities will take place in Cyprus in order to support the adoption of the national policy and ensure the success of its implementation. Institutional policies will now be the next step in order to be aligned with the National policy.

OpenAIRE will continue to play a key role in these strategic local infrastructures via its local NOAD.
