Implementation of the OpenAIRE-CRIS-CERIF Guidelines in DSpace-CRIS
Supported by OpenAIRE, 4Science has implemented the most recent version of the OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers in the open-source repository software DSpace-CRIS, which extends the DSpace repository platform by research data and information management.
Today, we already count more than 100 DSpace-CRIS installations running at research institutions across Europe. Which emphasizes the potential when making their rich research information interlinked and findable in OpenAIRE.
The main objectives are:
- realize the implementation of the latest OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers v1.1 in latest DSpace-CRIS version 5 and 6
- enable DSpace-CRIS platforms to expose research information to OpenAIRE
The implementation is already open-source and available for DSpace-CRIS release version 5.10 and version 6.3. The application is finalized and deployed successfully in three pilot research institutions in Europe. These pilot institutions from different countries across Europe are: University of Trieste / Italy, Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) / Cyprus, and Hamburg University of Technology / Germany.
This development puts repository managers in the advantageous position that the management of their entire research ecosystem of people, projects, organizational units, publications, and services can be built on a CRIS that is open source and complies with the latest OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers v1.1. The provided metadata is of high-grade quality and may also be retrieved by third-parties like the EC participants portal.
For all the innovations introduced by this new module, OpenAIRE offers each CRIS System Manager the possibility to validate his metadata through its Validator service against the Guidelines v1.1 before any registration could happen. Together with euroCRIS we are working on a uniform registration for CRISs.
